USCG DECK LICENSE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Operator of Uninspected
Passenger Vessels (OUPV)

  • This license allows the operator to carry up to six (6) passengers on an un-inspected vessel (UPV).
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • 360 days on Inland waters, (1 day equals 4-plus hours underway in a 24 hour period) counted from your 15th birthday.
  • 90 of the above 360 days within the last 3 years.
  • Near Coastal endorsement requires 90 days of the 360 in near coastal waters. Allows operation of un-inspected vessels up to 100 miles off shore.
  • Social Security card
  • Three character references.
  • Current (within 12 months) First Aid/CPR card.
  • Current (within 12 months) medical examination.
  • Current (within 6 months) DOT approved drug screening.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Current photo identification card.
  • Suggested Courses: Master 100 (M100-83 or M100-129 hour) or OUPV-63, Assistance Towing (AT), First Aid/CPR (MFA-CPR-8) and DOT Urine Drug Screen (UDS-1).

 

 

 

Master 100 GRT (Except Oceans)

  • This license is required to operate USCG inspected vessels carrying more than six (6) passengers.
  • Minimum age 19 years.
  • Proof of US citizenship
  • 360 days on Inland waters, (1 day equals 4 plus hours underway in a 24 hour period) counted from your 15th birthday.
  • 90 of the above 360 days within the last 3 years.
  • Tonnage is based on 90 days service on largest vessel with at least 45 days of that within the last 3 years.
  • Near Coastal endorsement requires 360 days in near coastal waters of 720 total days. Allows operation of USCG inspected vessels 200 miles off shore.
  • Social Security card.
  • Three character references.
  • Current First Aid/CPR card.
  • Current medical examination.
  • DOT Urine Drug screening.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Photo identification card.
  • Suggested Courses: Master 100 (M100-83 or M100-129), Assistance Towing (AT), Sail Endorsement (SE-4 First Aid/CPR (MFA-CPR-8) and Urine Drug Screen (UDS-1)

Assistance Towing
Endorsement

  • The Assistance Towing 200 GRT endorsement is required for any currently licensed Master assisting a disabled vessel for a fee.
  • Suggested Course: Assistance Towing (AT-5)
 

Sail Vessel Endorsement

  • Current USCG licensed Masters wishing to operate an inspected sail vessel must have this endorsement added to their license.
  • Sea Requirements: 180 days
  • Suggested Course: Sail Endorsement (SE-4)

Master 100 GRT – OUPV License Renewal

  • A USCG license (except oceans) can be renewed within 12 months of its expiration date by showing 360 days of sea service since its last issuance or successfully passing required USCG examinations or completing our 8-hour renewal course (refresher instruction and examinations).
  • Renewal candidates must submit to the USCG a current medical exam, DOT urine  drug screen, and copy of existing license.
  • Suggested Courses: License Renewal (LR-8), First Aid/CPR (MFA-CPR-8 and Urine Drug Screen (UDS-1)
 

FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit (MROP)

  • Mariners sailing to a foreign port, operating an inspected vessel, un-inspected vessels over 65’ with at least 1 passenger or subject to the Bridge-to-Bridge Radiotelephone Act are required to have a MROP.
  • Suggested Courses: MROP License Examination Only (MROP-1) and MROP License Preparation Class and FCC Element 1 Exam (MROP-4)
